Professional experience:

1.      Assistant Professor in Dept. of  Respiratory Medicine, Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, from 18^th August 2009 till date

Guwahati Medical College is a premier medical institute of the country and North-East region. Involved in management of patients in out-door and indoor basis. Apart from this involved in management of patients with respiratory illness in ICU and various departments of the institute. Doing rutine bronchoscopy and pulmonary function testing in the medical college.

2.      Doctor of medicine in Pulmonary Medicine (M.D)

 June 2006 – June 2009

From Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute, University of Delhi, Delhi – 110007.

Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI) is a premier institution for postgraduate medical education and research, devoted to the study of chest diseases. The institute is maintained by and affiliated to University of Delhi and is funded entirely by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Joined the above prestigious institution through All India PG Medical Entrance Examination 2006 and underwent a three year postgraduate residency programme in pulmonary medicine. The residency programme had various academic and clinical activities including extensive training in outpatient and inpatient management of tuberculosis and other respiratory diseases, emergency ward management, respiratory critical care medicine and sleep medicine.

The training also included working in various departments and laboratories:

1. Intensive respiratory care unit:  Mechanical ventilation (Siemens Servo-i), non invasive ventilation ( Respmed  BiPAP and CPAP machines), intensive care monitoring, chest tube drainage, pleurodesis, arterial blood gas analysis and other critical care activities.

2. Sleep laboratory: Diagnostic Polysomnography, Split Night Polysomnography with CPAP titration, Multiple Sleep Latency Testing (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Testing (MWT).

3. Pulmonary function laboratory: Computerized lung function testing that include spirometry, lung volume estimation by helium dilution method, diffusion studies by CO single breath method, bronchodilator response, exercise bronchoprovocation testing and histamine challenge testing.

4. Fibreoptic Bronchoscopy and Autofluorescence Video Bronchoscopy: Bronchoscopic visualization of tracheobronchial tree, bronchoalveolar lavage(BAL), endobronchial and transbronchial lung biopsy(EBLB and TBLB) and transbronchial needle aspiration(TBNA) for various respiratory diseases.

5. Allergy skin testing and immunotherapy for aeroallergens.

6. Tobacco cessation clinic.

7. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

8. Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation clinic.

Special postings during residency period included:

Posted in New Delhi Tuberculosis Centre, New Delhi and Rajan Babu Tuberculosis Hospital, Delhi, for a period of two months from 15.11.08 to 31.12.08. During this period, the training included management of MDR tuberculosis, Tubercular empyema, Tuberculosis and Diabetes, various complications of tuberculosis, their medical and surgical management as well as public health aspects of tuberculosis control in India.

3.         Internship training

            As per the requirement of Medical Council of India, New Delhi, for the issue of permanent registration certificate, underwent one year Compulsory Rotatory Resident Internship Training at Guwahati Medical College , Guwahati

            The internship training period includes posting in general medicine (2month), general surgery (2month), community medicine (2month), obstetrics and gynecology along with family welfare planning (2month) pediatrics (1month), orthopedics (15 days) ophthalmology (15 days), ENT (15 days), casualty (15days) and elective posting in anesthesiology and dermatology for 15 days each.
